Cape Town’s business quarter, on reclaimed land at the harbour edge — and about four hundred metres from the CTICC.

The Foreshore is the flat stretch between the city centre and the working harbour, built on reclaimed land. It is where the Cape Town International Convention Centre is, along with most of the city’s office towers, and Thibault Square sits in the middle of it.

Our apartment here is in the Charlie & the Chairman building, roughly 430 metres from CTICC 1. That is a six-to-eight minute walk, which is the entire argument for staying here during a conference: you walk to the venue in the morning and back at the end of the day without thinking about it.

It is quieter in the evenings than the CBD — this is an area that empties out after work. Victoria Wharf at the V&A Waterfront is about twenty-five to thirty minutes on foot — a proper walk rather than a stroll, but the shortest of our four, and the Waterfront’s events sit at the end of it.
